[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
After Luc's post of the Canadian cousin of the Barnacle goose, I couldn't resist to post this one, taken a month ago on the Seine river. Reading the note, you'll notice that apart of winter season where we have the chance of seeing lot's of them more south (down to Scotland, Ireland, Brittany, Normandy, Zeeland), this is really a northern species.
This one, as some others in my region never went back north and lives with wild ducks, the closest species to them on that spot.
---------------------------------------
BRANTA LEUCOPSIS - Barnacle Goose (En)- Bernache Nonette (Fr) - Nonnengans (Ge) - Brand Gans(Nl), Barnacla cariblanca (Sp), Vitkindad gas (Sw)
Size: 58 to 70 cm, Wingspan 132-145 cm, Weight 1400-2400 g. Colors: black and white head, grey-blue back, white chest. It is smaller than the Canada Goose with more silvery grey wings and mantle and a shorter neck. Longevity 19 years.
Live in colonies in the toundra, close to estuaries and coasts, where they eat grass and polar vegetation. They nest in Arctic regions, above the cliffs. Migrate in winter to low and flooded lands, grassland pastures and marshes, following different routes according to their original residence:
1 - Greenland to Iceland, then Scotland and Ireland.
2 - Spitzberg, along the Norwegian coast to Solway gulf.
3 - New Zemble, thru Baltic Sea, North Sea, down to the Netherlands and Northern France.
Roughly 110 000 birds winter in western Europe. In France, their winter population varies. During cold winters, it can reach 7000 individuals.
Protected species (red list)

What an interesting goose, Jean Michel. I don't think I have seen one of these in the flesh. Beautiful markings on the plumage. Sharp details and wonderful POV. Well done and TFS. : )

Ah Jean Michel, competition from around the world. And aren't these 2 geese (yours and Luc's) so different too. She also has her leg raised all ready to go and get her sash too. But who gets the World Crown? A good shot, nice and sharp and good colours too. Well shown.

Hi Jean Michel. Very good shot. Great POV and very good details. Excellent colours. TFS.

Hé! Hé! Hé!
Miss France a fière allure.

Merci Jean-Michel.

Wow, worldwide competition! I don't know which one is most pretty - Canadian or French ;-) Very nice pose, good exposure and quality.

Hi Christian

Beautiful colours. Nice POV. Crisp, clear with good details. Good complete note. TFS.

Beautiful capture of this goose! Very clear and sharp. Great DOF and details and good colors. TFS!

Hi Jean Michel,
This is a beautiful Miss France. Good make-up and nice dressed.;-)
The exposure are spot on, the whites are good.
Well composed and good POV. Well seen from the BG.
Great work, my friend.

Salut Jean-Michel,
Superbe photo dont j'apprécie particulièrement l'effet satiné de la robe. La pose fière et l'oeil expert du photographe en feraient une candidate au titre de Miss Univers...

Jean Michel, this is a lovely shot.

I like pov and composition. Great lighting. The bird seems to be walking full of grace, and that's very nice. Great details and pose.
