Gilded Cetoine (Cetonia Aurata)
| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note [French] |
Gilded Cetoine, sometimes called "hanneton of the roses".
The insect likes the sun and it is not rare to meet it in the gardens where it takes pleasure to forage in the roses, but also in the lilacs, the privets, or of the pyracantha, thistles and inflorescences of umbelliferous, but also on the flowers of the Elder tree, the Hawthorn, and of course of the Wild rose. The size of the adult insect oscillates between 15 and 20 mm, and the basic color is green metal with small maculae whitish, and transverse, on the elytron. Many variations are however observable but they are generally confined in the southern half of France, and Corsica itself has his chromatic specificities
