[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Small Tortoiseshell (Nymphalis urticae Linnaeus), one of the most familiar butterflies, in Europe.

My first reaction when I saw how my shot had turned out was disappointment. I expected a realistic picture. Instead, the yellows and the blues were too strong and the butterfly did not stand out and was not sharp enough. Cropping put more emphasis on the butterfly and I began to see the picture in a different way. It made me think of Alice in Wonderland. The yellow flowers are overpowering and unreal (fairyland type); the blue flowers above, although out of focus, seems to have eyes; and the butterfly, perched on its flower like Cheshire Puss, the Cat in his tree, looks like it is waiting to grin and say something.

You have a solid shot, just needs a bit of work to bring out the detail. I ran out of my allotment of workshops permitted tonight, but can give you some tips on what to perform.

1. Increase highlights by 40%.
2. Reduce saturation by -14
3. Decrease input levels.
4. Reduce the exposure level.

Bonjour Daniel,
Superbe photo, avec beaux contrastes des couleurs vives jaunes et bleues proveanant des fleurs.
Excellente composition et très bon travail afin d'arriver à un résultat qui te plais.

Actually, I rather like this picture as it is, but thought I'd run you a workshop to create a more realistic (??) view so you could compare it. Probably I would have left the yellows alone, and focused on toning down just the blues.
