Winter Wren (Troglodytes troglodytes)
This bird is found throughout most of Europe and North America where it inhabits a variety of habitats which provide it with low cover on which it can forage for the insects on which it feeds. It is usually seen foraging within a couple of metres of the ground. It is the only wren found in Europe but like the rest of the wren family, which is found in the Americas, it is a loud and melodious singer and is usually heard well before it is seen. Its characteristic call is a single or double note sounding like large pebbles being knocked together.
It is one of the smallest European birds at about 9 cms but it appears even smaller by its habit of sticking its very short tail up in the air. It has a fairly long, thin bill, a buffy supercilium and dark bars on its wings and flanks. It scientific name means "cave dweller" and this derives from its habit of building its nest in a crevice or hole in walls, trees or steep banks. I love this little fellows. They look quite funny and I always like to watch them, but unfortunately I don't have any shot. When I'm trying to get closer they hide somewhere among branches.
Your photo is perfectly framed and has great colours but the quality could've been a bit better.
Anyway, I like it very much.
VERY WELL DONE & TFS

Oh yes, they really are lovely aren't they - and very difficult to get close to. You did a great job getting close enough to get this shot. Colours look great as well as the dof/sharpness. The flash burned it a little on the chest and around the eye but apart from that it is a great capture. The composition is very good.

Hi Didier,
You mange to take a nice picture of this little fellow,
I try almost every day but they are to small and very quick, but some day I will successful.
Well composed and nice colours.
Well done.

Bonjour Didier,

Didier, this is a great photo. Great colours and great sharpness. A very nice composition. TFS.

A cute little fellow and I like the composition and mossy floor. The plumage looks to have a bit of noise mixed in, but its a species I've not seen before and quite nice overall.

Nice shot Didier,
A short vist. I'm not feeling to lively tonight.
Well worth a big green smiley.
Thanks for posting.

Hi Didier

Nicely composed shot. Good use of the flash. Clear details. Stands out nicely against the dark BG. Congrats!

Didier - I like this shot for its composition, pose, dark BG and bit of green FG that accents the frame nicely. The bit of flash burn aside, an excellent post. Well done.
