[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
A male Chalkhill Blue, Polyommatus coridon, photographed on a French Alpine meadow. On some Alpine meadows males are very numerous in August, flying low over the grasses and wild flowers, feeding and searching for females. Males may also congregate on animal droppings, puddles and muddy areas seeking moisture and minerals. Females are inconspicuous in colour (browner) and behaviour, spending less time than the males in flight.

In the UK, the butterfly is confined to chalk or limestone grassland in southern England and has declined in some areas, but it occurs across most of Europe (excluding Scandinavia and areas south of 40ºN) eastwards to the Urals. Its range is stable through much of Europe but it has declined in several countries.

The sole foodplant of the larvae is the Horseshoe Vetch Hippocrepis comosa.

Hi Nigel,
A superb shot here. The composition and framing look perfect to me. Flawless colors, and sharp detail. The DOF looks perfect against that beautiful OOF backround. Excellent work!

Hi Nigel, I love these little butterflies, and I'm looking forward to seeing the similar type in NZ when they finally appear this summer. I love your composition here, and the little one stands out so well on the piece of grass. Nice and sharp too. Well shown, thank you.

Hi Nigel,
A lovely shot of the Polyommatus coridon - which we don't get to see up here in Scandinvia as you point out - with sharp and truthful colours in a pin-pointed position! Many thank for this and for the informative note,

Hi Nigel,
that's my favourite butterfly, I love this kind with the blue wings. It is sitting on this plant so decorative with perfect colours and light. The dark BG is a good contrast.
Thank you very much, bye

Hello Nigel, this is a very nice shot. I love the lonely composition. Good details on the butterfly too, the whites on the wing fringes are a little OE but hard to get the entire butterfly exposed perfectly. Did you apply a blur to the BG? Or did you use some filter?

Hola Nigel: this butterfly is beautiful, you captured very well, the tridimension of the veins of their wings. I have captured it and I like like they vary her wings with the light, this small one is very beautiful, I enjoy when she extends her wings and she change in metallic grizzly blue color or when she is with this she poses that your to capture, but I have a lot of pleasure in particular of the dull tone. I am attracted by the black color of its eyes a lot, I don't know, but somehow those eyes remind me to the mouse mickey (also for its nose) I have photographed this butterfly and here I see that your butterfly has hairy the front paws, me not to have seen this way one, she also reminds a little me to my multicolored butterfly hairy paws. Me to add in workshop an image of a Chalkhill Blue that me to photograph January 6, I hope you like. Cordial greetings. *Ninfa Urania*

Hello Nigel,
thank you for that pretty lycaenid! Perfect details and colours. Elegant composition. Very well set off from a distant, dark background. Perfect notes, too.
Best regards, Peter
