COPRINUS ATRAMENTARIUS - Coprin noir d'encre (F). Same size as the delicious COPRINUS COMATUS, this mushroom comes in large groups often in grass surfaces growing on earth recently carried in and containing pieces of wood. Their life is very short. Oblong ovoid cap when youg, then gets larger and fringe becomes deliquescent, with spores releasing a dark liquid. It has been reported that a mycologist of the 19th century wrote a whole traitise with that ink, and it has been very well preserved. I haven't found any translation in english for that one, but french name means "black as ink".
Although, their gustative qualities are not comparable to the C.COMATUS, they can be used in cooking when very young, but without alcoholic beverages during the same meal and a few days after. They become toxic with alcohol. I've eaten the C.Comatus yet (delicious), but not this one. These are already too advanced. I only noticed the slug on the right after reviewing the daily shots.
The photo was taken early in the morning, humid meadow, disappearing fog. This spot was the nicest group, showing some stages of growth. In the back, a deliquescent group.

A beutiful autumn morning captured well jean . the 2 groups of fungus a very well seen and I love the slug having breakfast.
We call them "Common Inkcap" and the group of fungi that the caps deliquece are the Inkcaps.

Excellent. The close-up right, another patch left, the details of the trees in the BG. Check the slug. Splendid work, great note. I like this a lot.

Tres bon Jean Michel. This is a very well taken shot. I like that you included the other patch in the background. Your notes are very informative too. Good work.

Jean Michel, I think you have done a very good job here. The POV is very nice and the detals spot on. I love the various stages in teh fungi condition, the one in the process of deliquescence is particularly appealing. Well done.

Jean, great point of view here, and the colors are very beautiful. (I don't know why, but those "smileys" are not here.) Ten points.
