Beetles (coleoptera) can be found everywhere. There are over 500 000 species in the world. This one is an AGELASTICA ALNI - in french, Galéruque de l'Aulne (alder) -, family of Chrysomelidae, size 6 to 7mm. Larvae live on alder leaves and make holes in it. Adults can be found in all kinds of environment and eat whatever is available in their own one. They are not supposed to be carnivorous, so it seems that this one appreciates plant louses (greenflies)just for company!
------------
Not easy to install a tripod in bushes, and generally there is no time to do it if you want to catch what you've just observed. So, this is handheld. Autocontrast, a bit of sharpening (USM) and NeatImage.

This is just simply amazing! Great composition and colour. But I don't agree with how you frame your picture.

Jean, Great DOF for F4! Interesting photo with alot going on. I believe I see something other than a greenfly on the beetle hitchin' a ride? Like the segmented antenae I see & the vertical framing including the "company" of greenflies for added interest...Well done!!

Hi Jean Michel
Good picture of this critter. Also, for the restricted f-stop of the camera, the dof is very good. The slight diagonal works well too.

Very good macro Jean.
Nice composition and good details.
Good DOF ,F/4 with a compact digi, gives a good DOF if you compare with a DSLR.
Well done.

This is great Jean Michel, especially with the Aphids in the shot too.

Impresionante macro Jean Michel, no sólo por la agudeza sobre el beetle sino también sobre los pequeños áfidos.
Excelente composicion con adecuado DOF y POV, agradable colorido y muy buen PP.

It's a leaf beetle of some kind, Iwould say it looks very much like a Bloody-nosed beetle (so called because they produce a red fluid from their head when handled). However it may be a little small for that and the feet look too small. But leaf beetle i'm sure of.

Great shot, superb detail and the extra of the aphids is good.

Very nice shot, good colours, good details and sharpness is good to.
i also like the composition.
well done!

What a lovely buch of insects. I think that bug brute might be bullying the others? Great shot. Excellent detail.

No words. Perhaps one: Wow! TFS Jean Michel.

Jean Michel, in a very small room, so much life. Great capture.

Lívio

Hi Jean Michel,
It's not an Agelastica alni (Galerucinae), for I think we can see that antennae are widely separated at their basis instead of being close to one another. I'd suggest a female of a Timarcha sp. (Chrysomelinae), probably T. tenebricosa.

Best regards,
Dmitry
