Mute swan (Cygnus olor)
Order : Anseriformes
Family : Anatides

Mute swans belong to the most common birds in France, whether in parks or on lakes.

I met a couple of them on a small lake next to my village, and decided to take some photos. Unlike the ducks and the coots, the swans were not afraid of me, the male even went out of the water to have a closer look at me. So they were quite easy to capture, even with my little pocket camera.

In France, people are very afraid of bird flu. The epidemy didn't yet reach the Alsace, were I live, but it is nevertheless forbidden to feed the bird, and also forbidden to let our chicken run free, they must be kept inside. A farmer in the neighbourhood didn't respect those restrictions, so he had to pay a 750 Euros fine. Even approaching swans like I did to take this photo is strongly discouraged.

It was a rainy and windy day, with grey clouds covering the sky. That's why the photo is a bit dark and lacking colors.

Hello Valerie,
Pleasant composition!
The bird is well exposed, with 100% details in the plumage...
Good natural colours, as always a tad muted in a rainy day but we cannot always have sunshine!
Greetings,
Pablo -
