The strawberry is not strictly speaking a fruit, but the result of the magnification of the case of the petals, that takes a fleshy consistence. The true fruits are in fact the small "seeds" brunette, named akènes, dry fruits and indéhiscents (that don't open up naturally) that sprinkles the surface of these fleshy envelopes.
The Indian Ojibwas of the Ontario think that the soul of the deceased remained wanders until it meets a strawberry to the apogee of its maturity. When it tastes there, it can enter then to the Country of the Deaths and rest in peace for the eternity.
The history of the strawberry to big fruits goes back up to 1714, at the time of the American expedition of engineer Amédée François Frézier, loaded to observe the harbor fortifications of Chile and Peru. More fascinated by the botany than by the war desires of the king sun (that will die one year later in 1715), François Frézier discovered some strawberry plant to big fruits close to the city of Conception to Chile. This plant (Fragaris chiloensis) fructified only in presence of another fraisier of America, the strawberry plant of Virginia (Fragaria virginiana). Of this crossing was born a new species named" strawberry plant pineapple" (Fragaria ananassae), that is at the origin of all strawberries that we consume or let's cultivate today.
The allergy to the strawberries that results in a hives explains itself by a hypersensitivity to the histamine.
The strawberry became quickly symbol of love pleasure. In the XVIIIe century, one named" drills" the nipples of the women, what entailed the expression" to go to the strawberries" like synonym to flirt,

This picture is like homelike home in heart of the winter [what a funny sentence I've created :-) but I hope everybody understand what I'm talking about ;-)]. Anyway, when I look at this picture I'm in very pleasant mood.

Merci beaucoup.

Thank you for your strawberry, Christophe. It is refreshing.
What amazes me, it is that you photographed it recently while here, in Quebec, it is in the spring when we feast on it.
It is an excellent photo and your note learns me heaps of things which I ignored.
Ah strawberries and raspberries...
Thank you very much.

Interesting post Christophe. Clarity is excellent and notes are informative.
