In Spain, thuriferous Juniper (also called Sabina albar), appears in many provinces: Albacete, Murcie, Guadalajara, Cuenca, Teruel, Soria, Segovia and Burgos. Thuriferous juniper stands are extensive and not degraded, and grow in lower altitudes than in Morocco (350 to 1300m).The shapes of moroccan thuriferous juniper and spanish thuriferous are different (as you can see in the different photograpies). In spain, this tree is protected, that insure a very good natural regeneration.
In France, Juniperus thurifera is localized in Alps, Pyrenees and in Corsica.
In Alps, we can find it in six administrative subdivisions: Hautes Alpes, Alpes de Haute Provence, Alpes Maritimes, Savoie, Isère and Drôme. The most important stands are situated in Alpes de Haute Provence and Hautes Alpes administrative subdivision (in Hautes Alpes, Saint Crépin stand is the most interesting.
In Corsica, this species is localized in Pinnera valley near Asco, in Cinto mountains, and also in the Niolu (Rudda and Pruniccia valley).
In Pyrenees, there are two thuriferous juniper stands (some sparse trees were found around, but it’s not a real stand): the first is “Quié de Lujat” stand (Ariège), recently discovered (1993), and the second and more famous is the Rié Mountain stand (near Marignac and St Béat, Haute Garonne).
