PARUS CAERULEUS
Size : 11 to 12cm
Weight: 9 à 12 Grams
Life expectancy: 10 to 12 years
Survival rate 30%
Common name : Mésange Bleue (f) European Blue Tit (UK) , Blaumeise (D) , Herrerillo común (E) , Cinciarella (I) , Pimpelmees (NL) , Blåmes (Sw) . Common in all European countries, except far north.
Habitat: cities, parcs, gardens, and a large density in leafy woods, rarely in coniferous forests. Not found over an altitude of 1500m. Nests in tree holes or nesting boxes. 6 to 15 eggs during spring. Hatching during 13-14 days.
Food: insects during warm season, seeds during winter.
These colorful birds are real acrobats. They often search for food, suspended at tiny branches.
In winter, you can have them close to your home by feeding them with a mixture of fat, wheat and appropriate seeds. Despite their small size, they are quarrelsome and they don't hesitate to drive other birds from their place. They show their determination by puffing their feathers. They use their beak as a cutter to open seed shells and pick what’s inside piece by piece. The Blue Tit is smaller than the Great Tit (Parus Major), previously posted by some Tners.

This is great Jean Michel. Excellent shot with good details and colours. He looks very natural with his messy feathers - needs a bath. These are cute little birds. Well done, Janice

Hi Jean Michel
Can you believe it, three tits on one day, and I like this one of yours too.
It looks as if he had a shower!
Nice overall impact.
Just watch the USM, it should NOT show.

Very nice capture Jean Michel. Very clever handling of the light and the dof.

I am sure that theere will be a lot of tits in the next month or so - the winter is comming and as you mention these little fellows will soon be hanging around the feeding houses.

Well, it seems to be tit day on TN today ;-))
Yet another little beauty, good colours, nice catchlight in the eye and I like the fact that he seems to be singing his head off ;-)

La mésange est un de mes oiseaux préférés; je la trouve sympathique, mais nous n'avons pas de mésanges bleues au Québec. Cette photo est très réussie : elle nous en révèle bien les couleurs et les détails du plumage. La note est également très intéressante.

Jean Michel, I face some problems when shooting birds. I know how difficult it.

You did very well here. A pleasant composition, nice colors; pov was enough and it also blurred the bg.

A great job indeed.
