[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
I found this very little grasshopper in my raspberry bush, yesterday. It was so tiny I amost didn't see it, the body was no more than 5 mm long.

I have no macro lense, so I took some photos with my 18-55mm lense. I cropped big parts of the photo, I had to do it otherwise the insect would have been too small. That's why the picture is not of the best quality now. I asked myself whether to post it on TN or not, for a long time, and finally I decided to post it. Quality is far from perfect, but the little insect is beautiful, I love his striped antennas and legs, and I hope you will like it too.

I have no idea of the species. They are very common in my garden, when I pick up raspberries I see them jumping all around my hand, sometimes even on my hand. It's hard to find a website where you can identify european grasshopper. And I didn't find one single picture or info on this cute little thing. If somebody knows the species, it would be very nice to tell me !

With a kitlens you did a great job to capture this small grashopper in such way. It's difficult to cature a green object on a green background and to keep sufficient contrast to see it well. Well done.

Hi Valerie
Very nice picture indeed, especially under the circumstances, good light, adequate sharpness and... you did not crop the antennae ;°) !
Precise identification is difficult, because this is a very young Bush-Cricket (not a Grasshopper). It COULD be a young Great Green Bush-ricket (la Grande Sauterelle Verte, Tettigonia viridissima), but there are a number of other Bush-crickets which are not easy to separate from each other on a picture when they are so small...

Hello Valerie,
I think this is a nymph and therefore it's difficult to find a species. I don't know any good website about grasshooper neither. I used to tried to find something but that's quite difficult. There's quite interesting website: bugguide.net with lots of pictures. Sometimes you can find some clues there. Can be a little help when you don't have any idea where to look.
The picture is very good considering that you don't use macro lens. I would say it's better than some pictures taken with macro lens I've seen here ;-)
I like it!
WELL DONE!

Hi Valerie,
Beautiful shot with excellent POV and very good contrast when considering the difficulty posed by having subject and BG with the same colour tones.

Excellent shot, Valerie. Macros are hard to do, and you pulled off a great one. With regard to the quality, it is very good, but I think a slightly tighter crop and an increase in contrast would make this outstanding. I'll play with it a bit and post a WS.
Mike

Hi Valerie,
What a tiny cutie!
Excellent camo colours & patterns, and you do a swell macro job!
Details are flawless, colours well reproduced!
Greetings,
Pablo -

Hi Valerie,
Lovely bug that I never saw. The crickets a know are very different to this one and lovely too. It's a nice post!
TFS, José M.

Very interesting bug, but not a grasshopper, I feel.
The POV is very good, and I too like those long antennae, Valerie.
TFS.

Hello Valerie,
Very nice capture.Details, sharpness and lighting are beautiful.
Thanks for sharing.

Hi Valerie,
You did very well for that lens, and the major cropping you did to get this nice composition. Colors look great, and detail is sharp. Even with the large crop, the noise is very minor. Great job!

Hi Valerie
This is an excellent close-up of a very cute little cricket shot with the standard lens for your camera. I just love those loooong antennae and the beautiful markings on its body.
Your composition is great, the colours are fine (although I think Mike's workshop did justice to that aspect), the details are as sharp as you could have hoped to achieve with a proper macro lens, the BG is well OOF and the subject isolated on the leave while it shows no significant noise considering the ISO was set to 400, and the exposure was well controlled.
Excellent work and TFS.
Regards
Loot

Bonjour Valerie

I like its antennae too! If you didn't mention about the size, i couldn't know about the size! Cause it looked huge in the frame:-) Great pov and great framing here! It's eye on you also! Very interesting glance! Thank you and best regards!

Hi Valerie,
Nice picture of this cute little grasshopper. Great composition and well balanced color tone. Well done and TFS. (This insect may be a cricket because of long antennae)
