Talpa europaea - Mole
I made a success of this photograph by posting me near a gallery in the morning early. And my surprise was great to see emerging from the ground this small ball black!! It is the first time that I then to take in photograph a mole!!
Moles live underground and surface only occasionally. They have very poor sight and feed mainly on worms and insect larvae that they find by the sense of touch. Their cylindrical bodies and powerful front claws are ideal for digging.
Moles create their complex labyrinth of interconnected chambers by burrowing close to the surface, often leaving visible ridges. A trail of 'mole hills' betrays the route the burrowing mole has taken, and as seen here (above) it is rarely straight.
Mole hills are places where the mole has pushed up earth above the surface; new mole hills appear during periods when the soil is damp - generally spring and autumn, but as the picture above proves they are active even on the coldest of winter days. (This picture was taken on 2nd January after five days of sub-zero surface temperatures!).The earth from mole hills is greatly valued by gardeners as a potting material, because it is finely broken down and free of wireworms and insect larvae that might damage the roots of young plants.

Well seen mole,as you already say its not common that they show themselves,in the place I live we as garden owners are happy that they not live here in the neigbourhood,

Bonjour Didier ! Comme vous le dites si bien, il est rare d'apercevoir ces animaux, je suyis contente quez vous ayez vu celle-ci et décidé de nous faire partager ce beau moment. Les détails, les couleurs, la composition, tout est excellent. J'aime beaucoup son oeil minuscule, je comprends maintenant pourquoi ces animaux sont presque aveugles. Du très bon travail !

That is all I can remember of a poem for children.
Didier, what a great catch, I bet you were happy to see him. And are those pine cones beside him? Very good find, I haven't seen a mole on TN before. Well done - BRAVO!

What a great shot Didier. Don't think I have ever seen one myself but I always thought that the mole was blind because it had no eyes. Its the small eye which really fascinates me here, such an unusual little creature. Very well done.
