[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
After making a fuss about Paris Zoo not being well funded, I decided to do some investigation on other animal reserves around Ille De France - there are a few, including Espace Rambouillet (very good) and Chateau Thoiry (animal reserve, though only ever went to watch a game of cricket, as it is the location of the expatriate english cricket team - this has to be the most boring sport on the planet though).

Todays trip was to the Parc du Sauvage at Emance, just outside Rambouillet. This is a very 'open plan' park in that you can wander wherever you like - provided you stay on the path - and all the animals co-exist together within the same space. Wildlife includes Emus, Kangaroos, Deer, Flamingoes, Ibix (I think? - curly horned goat like thing?), and various other assorted birds and mamals - though I didn't recognise all of them. One of the promotional pictures had a leopard, though I never found anything more dangerous than 5 year old children and their parents.

So, today's picture is a Scarlet Macaw. More normally found in latin america, these birds were endangered in their natural habit by deforestation and poaching for bird collectors.

The birds are capable of flying up to 50Km/h and live off a diet of fruit.

This Macaw is interested in you or your camera - either way you better stay clear of that beak, it will surely cause serious damage. Very well taken with excellent DOF and colors.

I love these guys, they are so cleaver and cute. I like this image and the colours. I think the eye is not 100%, therei a slight overexposure on the head and bill, but this is just a small nit.
