it's a mandarin duck
The male is easy to identify. The female has a more discrete plumage with a white spot around the eye. It is a duck of forests, which affectionne rivers with timbered islands, the ponds of forests and the thickets wet.
The ducks mandarins are often posed on branches above water or rocks which emergent. They have a flight fast and flexible and they are not very talkative.

Looks realy nice this shot! The colors, good DOF and POV! Good colors!
Is there any more to tell about a Manderin Duck and where you saw it ?

Almost perfect, but framed a bit too tight, it needs more space.

Great image with a very clear colours and definition. Very well composed locating the duck on the left corner and giving space in front of it.
The blue background is really perfect to increase the power of the duck colours. I like it a lot! Rgds Thierry.

Ces canards sont tellement colorés qu'ils semblent irréels...sortis de l'imagination d'un conteur fantastique.
Très belle image même si cadrée un peu juste en bas et à gauche.

Beautifus posture. Only a pity that the wings and paws are cut of. Beautiful colours.

Great color and detail in this photo. I agree with Phillip that he needs alittle more room, but it is still an excellent capture.

I love Mandarin ducks,and I have never seen one captured like this before. You have done well here. The shot is very clear considering all the ducks movement.
Its a shame the wingtips and feet were cut off otherwise you could have had more options for cropping and composition. I would possibly have cropped a little closer on top and on the right.Great shot though.Steve.
