[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This shot is dedicated to Gert, for the unanimous recognition of his Flying Duck.
As the postings of many other birdwatchers sharing beautiful flying birds, Gert's great ones are the best incentive for me to try new things with a camera. This one is my first flying bird escaping the "Just Missed Shots" theme, so I'm very happy to share it with you! It was taken on a dead arm of the Seine River. You'll find useful information on the Mute Swan here, on a previous shot taken next to this place.

Additional notes: mid-dark clouds but no rain, 14,30h. Two fisherman on the bank, being quite lucky today, told me the Seine water quality was getting much better from year to year. Good news... also for shags and herons! If you look carefully a bit in front of the swan, there is a Coypu (myocastor, ragondin in french) sitting at water level on the bank, facing us. Thay have long rodents teeth of a very special dark orange color. I took close shots on the opposite bank to share later.

Camera Settings: Speed priority, ISO 200, auto white balance, burst mode (3images), average compensated metering, focal lenght 180mm + teleconverter (x 1,7). Camera handheld.
PP: Straightened (3°), cropped, levels, Hues (magenta minus 100%) to reduce chromatic aberration on wings edges, USM (80 - 0,5 - 0), NeatImage filtering and little sharpening.
Reduced to site size.

Nice action shot Jean,
I've done a few of these myself, but not as clear as this.
I love the way it looks like they're running on water when taking to the air.

Very good catch, I think that there are a little bit lack of details, but you did a great job catching this bird on the right timing.

Great capture Jean Michel. I would really like that it was one of mine;-) - I have tried for several days but every time they were out of shooting range.

Excellent capture of the swan taking off. It's come out very well indeed and must be satisfying for you. Well done.

I still want a shot like this. It keeps evading me. I have quite a collection of misses though. :)

Incredible to get this shots with the huge shuter-button delay of the F-717. You captured a very beautiful image, just in time. Although the BG did not help a lot this time is still an artistic work. Thanks J.Michel.
