[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This 'Fire Fox' was 'browsing' all the time; for some reason the Panda was very nervous. All the time he was walking up and down, using his highway(s). The sparrow(s) I posted in my previous posts were very much interested in his food and were very alert. Nevertheless his mind was somewhere else.

Difficult chap to photograph; the reddish part is very dark. And it receives already less light. Take into the sunlight contrast as well and the contrast is too high.
So I used levels a bit and afterwards the dodge tool. Then, blurred to get rid of the generated noise.
Other pp: usual workflow more or less.

Wiki:
The Red Panda, Ailurus fulgens ("shining cat," from a Latinized form of the Greek αιλουρος, ailouros, "cat," and the participial form of the Latin fulgere, "to shine"), also known as the Lesser Panda, Bear Cat or Fire Fox, is a mostly herbivorous mammal, slightly larger than a domestic cat (55 cm long). The Red Panda has semi-retractile claws and, like the Giant Panda, has a "false thumb" which is really an extension of the wrist bone. Thick fur on the soles of the feet offers protection from cold and hides scent glands. Red Pandas are a little bigger than domesticated cats and their cubs are a little bigger than domesticated kittens. (Kahili, 2006.)

For many decades the taxonomic classification of both the Red Panda and Giant Panda have been under debate as both share characteristics of both bears and raccoons. Most opinion is that the similarity in their common names is not justified by a close genetic relationship.

Hello Annick,
This capture is of my favorite animal at Calgarys' Zoo, they are so cute and very active. Your detail is very good but as you mentioned in your note the red fur seems almost brown. The portrait composition really shows off that cute face.
Thanks Rick

Hi Annick,
first let me say clever note(the only browser for me,sorry EI.)and I like the subject. You are correct on your own assessment of your photo as some detail has been lost due to lighting conditions. Bob

I like the potrait, and dont think that the dark part is a problem, it is like it is, and gives a nice contrast isolation the face.
Nice details and colours and good note of this strange creature. Good and interesting work.
Regards, Felipe.

Hello Annick,

nice portrait! every time I visit zoos, a red panda is sleeping on a tree like a forgotten Teddy bear :) well captured, and thank you for sharing!

Igor
