[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
During an international conference on animal behavior sponsored by the Humboldt University last week, we speakers were given a private, after-hours tour of the Berlin Zoo, accompanied by the founder of that zoo, Professor Tembrock. It's quite a different thing to be almost alone in a zoo of this size and importance...without screaming kids and hords of tourists screaming such idiocies such as "Oh, look, Henry, that big gorilla looks just like your Uncle Fred!"
The Berlin zoo does not have an enormous number of animals...very few mustelids, birds, antelope, etc. But the animals it does have are confined in quarters that are four stars by most criteria, as the reproductive rate attests. Its aquarium is top drawer, although the salt water chambers are less "crystal clear" than those of Frankfurt. On a scale of one to ten, the Berlin Zoo, in my opinion, deserves a 9.

Hi Michael.
I saw this impressive animals only in childhood in Odessa zoo, which cannot be compare with Berlin Zoo. Many years we have not these animals. I can imagine your impressions from visit zoo which is free from visitors. Thanks for nice shot and interesting story. My kind regards and TFS.

First of all, it's maybe "stella's twin" :-) But all this fat beast looks so lovely enjoying water !... The picture very well done and, as says horias, your explanation about animals always rich.
