[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Early in the morning, insects are not so busy and - as in this case - rest in the sun to warm up and get rid of dew drops. This is the chance to take pictures getting very close to them.
The picture shows a hoverfly. The exact species identity is not clear for me.
The place where the epicture was taken is small nature reserve 'Großer Fallstein' not far from the Harz Mountains. The reserve is very rich in plants and insects. I will show some more species of this area later.

Very nice picture and very informative and usuful note (especially for someone who wants to start adventure with camera and insects). I like this very good close-up and details (even the hairs on insect body are perfecly seen!).

Superb macro. Very neat and sharp. Natural lighting and the sheen on its wings look awesome. You have even managed to catch a few dew drops on its body. Excellent POV and it sits so regally. Very nicely composed. Kudos.

Buen acercamiento y detalle, aunque la luz resulta algo dura, creo qeu se trata de una Eristalis Tenax.

Nice job of it Peter, I especially like the morning lights effect, & the water droplets hangin' fore & aft :)
