When magnified many of the superficially unspectacular micromoths show us their true beauty.
This small moth with a wing span of about 15mm only has a very colourful and complex wing pattern.

The species shown is
- Olethreutes arcuella
- family: Tortricidae


Species information
The species occurs in large parts of Europe and can be observed from May to August.
The caterpillar feeds on decayiing leafs of lower plants.

- natural bright sunlight
- no wind
- handheld

Hi Peter

Stunning macro of this beautiful tiny moth. You are right, I have captured a few myself and been very surprised when I load them onto the computer.
Excellent composition, pattern details and sharpness. Silver is such an unusual colour in nature!

You have said it, Peter. This small Moth is extremely beautiful.
The black and white patterns on its golden wings look like the brush strokes of some gifted artist.
The image is phenomenally brilliant and beautiful.
