The male is the largest grouse in the world, almost entirely blue-black in plumage. The female Capercaillie most closely resembles the female Black Grouse but she is bigger and warmer brown with distinct rufous colouring in her throat, breast and tail.
Breeds and winters in coniferous and mixed woods.

Hello Andrea,
I really enjoy seeing this as I don't think the female is seen that often! Superb shot, very sharp and lovely colour. The POV is brilliant with the head against the dark log.
