Another shot I took at the butterfly exhibition in the botanical garden in Munich.
I was in there to take some pictures, when they suddenly turned on some sprinklers. So this owl butterfly got those beautiful water drops all over ;)
Owl Butterflies - caligo eurilochus
Owl butterflies, of which there are around 20 different species, are members of the genus Caligo, in the brush-footed butterfly family Nymphalidae. They are found in the rainforests and secondary forests of Central and South America.
The name is derived from the presence of large "eyespots" (ocelli) on the underside of the hindwings. [...] It was speculated that the ocelli are "false eyes" to scare smaller birds that attempt to prey on the butterfly.
Owl butterflies are very large, and fly only a few metres at a time, so avian predators have little difficulty in following them to their settling place. However, the butterflies preferentially fly around dusk, when few avian predators are around. [...]

Superb macro shot. I am amazed with subject a lot. Water drops on the butterfly give special charm of the picture. Framing, magnification, details and sharpness of the insect and stem are amazing. Bravo. Perfect macro work.
