[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
After posting some alpine fritillaries, I would like to introduce the genus Erebia which is present in the Alps with numerous species.
As a first species, I show a rather common one which is found at lower altitudes in the Alps. It is
- Erebia ligea
- family: Nympalidae
- sabfamily: Satyrinae
- tribe: Satyrini
- subtribe: Erebiina
German: Weißband-Mohrenfalter
English: Arran Brown

Species information
The occurrence of E. ligea is not restricted to the Alps but it occurs also in other European mountain regions including Scandinavia. Eastwards it is distributed throughout palaearctic Asia as fas as Japan. In the Alps it can be found up to about 1800m within forest areas. At higher altitudes it is replaced by a similar species, Erebia euryale.
Wing span: about 45mm.
Larval foodplants: grasses (as usual for Satyrinae)

Location
German Alps, in forest surrounding the lovely Eibsee just below German's highest mountain, the Zugspitze (2962m).

Exceptionally well taken shot of the Arran Brown butterfly!
The sharpness and POV are just wonderful with nice contrast to the green leaf in the BG. Well defined colors and textures of the butterfly are very well shown. Wonderful job!
