Wild boar piglets, dt. Wildschwein-Ferkel, fr. les Marcassins du Sanglier, it. Cinghiale

Sus scrofa scrofa, captive

Class mammalia, order artiodactyla, family suidae

The term boar is used to denote an adult male of certain species, including, confusingly, domestic pigs. In the case of wild pigs only, it is correct to say "female boar" or "infant wild boar", since boar or wild boar refers to the species itself.

Wild or feral?
The difference between the wild and domestic animals is largely a matter of perception; both are usually described as Sus scrofa, and domestic pigs quite readily become feral.
The characterisation of populations as wild, feral or domestic and pig or boar is usually decided by where the animals are encountered and what is known of their history.
One characteristic by which domestic breed and wild animals are differentiated is coats:
Wild animals almost always have thick, short bristly coats ranging in colour from brown through grey to black. A prominent ridge of hair matching the spine is also common (“razorback” in the southern US). The tail is usually short and straight. Wild animals tend also to have longer legs than domestic breeds and a longer and narrower head and snout.

Hi Gabi, very cute and I like the synchronisation. They look very preoccupied in what they are doing. I really like these creatures especially when they are small. Very nice image, well done.

Hi Gabi,
An excellent shot on these cute babies. (Not so cute when they grow up) It looks like they were lined up for a race. They are really intent on something. Exposure looks great with nice colors and sharp detail.

Hi Gabi,
Coordinated Piglets, love it. Great title :-) I like the way their tails are all in the same position, it adds to the theme. A nice shot too, great detail and nice timing to capture the three together. Interesting note too, I had always assumed that a Boar was a Boar, not that it is a cross-species term.
Regards,
Adrian

Hello Gabi,
this is a very nice action shot about the Wild boar piglets. Excellent sharpness, great POV and framing too. Natural colours and great note. This is a great presentation.
Heinz

The three infants are wonderful and would have been better emphasized if the one off the right was cloned out to my eye, leaving only the three, centred to the left, but a good clear shot anyway.

Hi Gabi,
I love those shots you take in the wild! They are so different and very instructive. Well done for this one with great details, texture and good composition. TFS,
Claudine
