[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
I did not have very much time for nature lately,
so i visited the Cologne Zoo yesterday where i found
this Grey Heron stretching his wings and legs.

I guess he did not "belong" to the zoo as there were
a few other herons flying around freely.

The title refers to where i saw him - at the penguins,
waiting for fish.

The Grey Heron, Ardea cinerea is a wading bird of the
heron family Ardeidae, native throughout temperate
Europe and Asia and also parts of Africa. It is
resident in the milder south and west, but many birds
retreat in winter from the ice in colder regions.

It is a large bird, standing 90-100 cm tall, with a
175-195 cm wingspan and a weight of 1-2 kg. Its
plumage is largely grey above, and off-white below.
Adults have a white head with a broad black
supercilium and slender crest, while immatures have a
dull grey head. It has a powerful pinkish-yellow bill,
which is brighter in breeding adults. It has a slow
flight, with its long neck retracted (S-shaped). This
is characteristic of herons and bitterns, and
distinguishes them from storks, cranes and spoonbills,
which extend their necks.

It's great to see you here, my friend, even if you didn't have much time recently. :)
This is indeed a very original photo of this heron, with a terrific timing to capture this cool pose :)
Splendid details everywhere and lovely colors that present this gorgeous heron.
Also sopt-on exopsure and very very good DOF.

Perfect timing on this one - looks like the heron is holding the wing with its leg. Very good sharpness with nice details in the heron. The dof allows a little of the background to be shown but not disturbing - very good. Nice and natural colours.

der macht wohl Yoga ;-). Klasse getimed hast du das , eine sehr elegante Yogahaltung hast du da erwischt.

I love the pose, Thor, its refreshing to see a different POV on the Gray Heron, they do like to stretch now and then. Great exposure and colours, nice and sharp.
