With a wider crop i could have turned this into one of
the nice "Where is the bird?"-photos.

One of those lucky mornings - a (for cologne) quite rare
or not often seen bird and i had my camera with me to
capture this friendly Treecreeper doing his "job".

According to the birdbook of the rhineland it could be a
Short-toed Treecreeper (Certhia brachydactyla)
which looks almost like the Common Treecreeper (Certhia familiaris).

*******************

The Short-toed Treecreeper, Certhia brachydactyla, is a
small passerine bird found through much of warmer
temperate Europe and into north Africa. It is a member
of the treecreeper family. It is closely related to the
very similar Brown Creeper from North America.

The Short-toed Treecreeper is the only treecreeper which
breeds in southern Spain or eastern Turkey. It is a
major rarity in Great Britain. It has a generally more
southerly distribution than the other European species,
the Common Treecreeper with which it is easily confused,
although there is extensive range overlap in western
Europe. Where both occur, Short-toed Treecreeper tends
to prefer deciduous trees.

It is a resident in woodlands throughout its range, and
nests in tree crevices or behind bark flakes. About six
eggs are laid.

This is a small bird, 12-13.5 cm in length, fairly drab
in appearance, streaked brownish above and white below.
It has long stiff tail feathers which help it creep up
tree trunks like a mouse looking for insects. It has a
long curved bill.

It is not wery easy to say!

Hi Thorsten!
This picture is a great example how birds can camouflage in natural habitats where they live. Very well captured, good light and sharpness.

Thorsten

A nice little bird, must have been hard to spot as is so well camoflaged against the tree.

Hello,
Very well done! Not easy to catch this allways moving bird, difficult to see too. Excellent sharpness and colours. Congratulations.

What a funny little fellow this tiny bird is Thorsten. He is very camourflaged against the bark of the tree.
Short-toed Treecreeper - the name certainly suits him.
Well seen and captured

Hi Thorsten.
Simply great picture of the beautiful bird and very impressive surroundings. I am impressed with DOF, details and sharpness of the entire image, excellent lights and colours. Bravo.
Alexei.

Hi Thorsten,

Very nice capture of Treecreeper. I have a number of pictures of Treecreepers which for some reason are not useable. There must be something difficult with this bird. One obvious is usually bad lighting. You have made great work, sharp details, good contrast, lighting and composition.
