[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
There is a small pond located in an also small natura reserve close to my home. On May 1st, I checked the place for insects and found numerous. Some days ago I posted a picture of Libellula quadrimaculata and today I would like to introduce this small beetle, perhaps 8 - 10 mm in length and attracting by its golden metallic and iridescent surface. It is a species of the
- genus: Donacia
- family: Chrysomelidae
Donacia species live on plants quite close to the water. This one I found on a leaf of Iris pseudacorus which emerged from the pond, however, not yet flowering.
I can't give the exact species identity - it is not easy to distinguish the several species: There are about 25 in middle Europe.

salut Peter,
belle image réalisée avec une vitesse lente, bravo pour la performance. Jolis détails et bon BG. Le dos est légèrement OE et le fils qui coupe au niveau du cou méritait un petit PP.

Bela foto agradavel inseto,parece que a luz sobre ele estourou a parte do seu corpo perdendo um pouco de nitidez,mais valeu o esforço.

Hello Peter,
This fine macro of a Donacia species evokes childhood memories: I used to see them when I went fishing.
Once again your steady hand has allowed excellent sharpness at only 1/60 sec, the high aperture giving a good DOF.
This, together with nice side lighting and pleasing BG contribute to a first class image of this species of Chrysomelid.
