Dependent on the resting place it is difficult to detect and if detected, you first have to verify that this is really a living 'thing'. First of all, you have to decide what is the front and what is the back.

- Widespread in Europe and palaearctic Asia.
- Larval foodplants: Salix, Quercus, Ulmus, Corylus, Tilia.
- Wing span: 55 - 68 mm.
In Europe, there occurs a close relative and similar looking species, Phalera bucephaloides, which differs in the shape of the apical yellow patch.

Conditions
- bright natural light
- handheld, the leaf supported by a finger of the left hand and the thumb supporting the camera.

Spettacolare cattura, molto bella la composizione con la falena quasi in bilico sulla foglia verde scuro e con il BG ugualmente scuro, che mettono in risalto i bellissimi e vivaci colori, eccellente nitidezza. Grazie e complimenti. Ciao Maurizio

Hello Peter,
You know, this is one of my favourite moths, it looks so cute with its chubby 'nose' and the camouflage markings are fantastic. A very fine capture showing sharply all details and great colours too that sets it off against the darker background.
Many thanks and have a nice weekend, Ulla
