[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Volucella zonaria also called the Hornet Mimic Hoverfly, is a European species of hoverfly.[1] In Britain it was only know from two specimens prior to 1940, and so was regarded as a rare. Since then it has become increasingly widespread in many parts of the South and South East of England, often in association with parks and gardens where adults are usually seen visiting flowers. Elsewhere in England there are only a few scattered records. The larvae live as commensals in nests of wasps of the genus Vespula). Like all Volucella The adults are migratory.

Hi Sigi,

Well captured. The detail on the subject is well handled with good DOF and your exposure choice was just right here. The flowers make a nice background for the subject to stand out on but might be a bit light at the bottom of the frame.

Bonitos colores e interesante control de la luz. El encuadre no es el más apropiado a mi gusto.

Hi Siggi,

I never realized there were so many varieties of hoverflies! An amazing macro of this one with excellent details of the entire insect. The transparent wings are wonderful - I love seeing the violet flowers through them. Beautiful colors add to this superb shot.

Czesc Siggi!

Widze, ze ostatnio polujesz na bzygi :-) Piekny egzemplarz. Prawdziwy puchaty grubas z niego. Swietna ostrosc i kolory, bajeczna kompozycja z morzem kwiatow.

Hello Siggi,

What superb textural details you have captured here. The eyes look like silk and the body resembles fine, silky fur, whilst the wings resemble cellophane.
Nice dof with the blurred flowers making a colourful b/g.

Kind regards,
Bev :-)

Hello Siggi,

Very nice shot and great closeup with macro effect. Very sharp focus and clarty shot. I like the color of the eye. Ganesh

Believe me or not but not so long ago I saw this species for the first time in Greece! In Poland it is rather rare. I also tried to take a picture of this fly but without any results :(
I like your note too, especially English name of the species - Hornet Mimic Hoverfly is really great for this one :)
TFS and all the best Siegfried!
Greetings from Lodz,
Radomir

ps. Your Polish is excellent, but where did you learn this language? :>
