[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
A flat section of slate hill-side, about 20 meters high, shows the colors and textures of this metamorphic rock, which easily splits into smooth flat pieces. This is Nature's abstract painting.

I photographed this in the Ahr Valley, south of Cologne. The slate covered soil makes this an excellent red wine growing region, the farthest north of its kind.
