European garden spider

The European garden spider (Araneus diadematus, cross spider) is a very common and well-known orb-weaver spider in Western Europe. Araneus diadematus also lives in parts of North America, in a range extending from New England and the Southeast to the Northwestern United States and adjacent parts of Canada.

Individual spiders' colouring can range from extremely light yellow to very dark gray, but all european garden spiders have mottled markings across the back with five or more large white dots forming a cross. The white dots result from cells that are filled with guanine, which is a byproduct of protein metabolism.[1]

It is hard to provoke a garden spider to bite - if it does, the bite is slightly unpleasant and utterly harmless (unless you're a fly!)

Guten Morgen Heinz,

Hello Heinz,
Wow! Wonderful extreme close-up this monster! What a different eye combination on the garden spiders! That triangled eyes look cute :-) Like that oranges on the abdomen also and the dark bg made this composition from aliens world, sci-fic and horror together in this movie :-)
Bravo!
Ersin

Hello Heinz, great details on this macro!
Excellent POV and DOF.Well done.

Andrea

Hi Heinz,
Very sharp, colorful and detailed photo, also composition excellent, thanks for your sharing.

Hi Heinz
That is a very cool position you have captured the spider on. These sort of views of insect always seem to be the most interesting 'the eye to eyes', approach. They are hard to get but very rewarding. Great photo and good composition.
regards
Matt.

wow, da warst du aber ganz nah dran, heinz! :-)
excellent job & einen schönen sonntag, thorsten.

Don't do that i couldn't comment your nice picture!

Heinz,
Great deatil, I love the 3 eyes. I'd hate to stumble across this guy.
North American garden spiders look gnarly but not like this! Great capture my friend and wonderful notes.

Saludos... Ricardo

This image my friend has a stranger mixture of sharpness and unfocus that produces a very interesting effect, considering the limitation of your camera the same as mine of available maximum F8.
The POV personally is not ideal in this case, restricting of both sides the vision of the complete paws.
Perfect background achieved with good control of the light.
Regards... Ricardo

Nothing is left to imagination in this highly lucid and crystal clear macro of the garden spider, Heinz. you truely handle these challenges heroically.
The cross that you mention in your note is clearly discernible on the back of the spider.
Great POV and depth of focus.
Thanks for sharing it.

Hello Heinz,
I was a bit surprised seeing such picture in your gallery. I used to your lovely butterflies and this is something quite different. The spider looks quite scary. I guess this is also because of the POV which is superb. You've got some great details here too.
VERY WELL DONE!
