A sunny winter-day!
Relatively high temperatures terminate the winter sleep of butterflies which hibernate in the imaginal state.
So, today I could observe Peacocks (Nymphalis io), Brimstones (Gonepteryx rhamni) and Comma Butterflies (Polygonia c-album). Not all were so kind to settle down close to me, except for this Peacock.

Hi Peter,
You really bring us the gladdest of tidings today with this more than welcome sign of spring nicely captured in a telling setting of contrasts between old and new, between colours of decay and colours of life! Thank you very much for this enlivening picture and the note about species testifying to further signs of spring in view as well! Very nice indeed!
With best regards,
Goran

Hello Peter,
Wonderful to see the first spring butterfly from you up "north". It looks in pretty good condition and your capture is really lovely!
Great sharpness and the colours look lovely against the leafy background. Excellent composition. I hope there'll be more soon!
TFS and best wishes, Ulla

Hallo Peter,
Peter

Hello Peter,
A fresh Peacock Butterfly emerged into the sunshine after a successful winter hibernation! What more do we want to make us feel the vigour of springtime!
That you present this is a shrp and well composed shot makes it all the better!
TFS and best wishes for a successful lepidoptera season.

Gratulation Peter!

Anne

Hi Peter,
I love the colors and details on this butterfly.
The contrast with the leaves is really great.
Nice composition!
Congrats!

That's interesting, I didn't know butterflies hibernated through your winter. That doesn't happen in Australia.
Good capture against the brown leaves.
well done
