the erroneous name of bird (Caspian Gull)changed after clarification from the friend Ivan

Yellow-legged Gull/Larus michahellis
in the Greek spoken languare “asimoglaros” (silver gull)

Length: 65 cm.
Opening of feathers: 1,5 m
Distribution: it makes nest in islands of Mediterranean.
Previously they considered him subspecies of northern Herring gull Larus argentatus.
Afterwards were separated the southern populations
(Interior, Black Sea, Kaspia, Central Asia) as Larus cachinnans.
Still more recently it has been proposed the Mediterranean populations
they constitute separate type with the scientific name Larus michahellis
Greek population: it has not been measured. Probably between 60.000 and 100.000 pairs.

It is repeated at colonies in islands, locally and in wetlands or even in roofs of buildings.
It is met in coasts, harbours, dumps fields.
It is increased considerably

The bigger gull of Greece and the one that monopolizes the publicity
as the formal gull of archipelago that is portrayed in the cards and the tourist pictures.
This because the population of Herring gull has increased itself vertically while the species
is adapted and exploit sources of food that offer the persons.
Cause of this increase is the adaptability of species and his all devouring habits
while by its very nature eats everything - fishes, insects,
plant food immigratory birds etc Today the two more important sources of food
for the Herring gull are the not marketable fishes that are flown by the piscatorial ships
and the waste that find themselves exposed in the tips.
It is calculated for example that the dumps of capital maintain more from 20.000 pairs of Herring gull.

The increase of Herring gull is threat for other species.
The herring gull not only rivals more infrequent seabirds but has also developed in serious hunter of nests,
nestlings of but also adults as Yelkouan Shearwater and Storm Petrel.
Other species that are in danger from the Herring gull in Greece are immigratory small birds.
Exist in deed colonies of Herring gulls, as those of Gavdopoula and Antipaxoi(small Greek islands)
that are nourished almost exclusively with immigratory birds.

Hello Nasos,
A fine capture of a gull taken from a fine POV t show all the features with fine sharpness, colours and lighting.
But this not the Caspian Gull: It is the Yellow-legged Gull (Larus michahelis). The legs of the caspian gull are less yellow and the eyes are dark, not light blue as this species and the Herring gull.
Thanks and have a good weekend,
Ivan
