Geometridae: from the Greek "geo" (the earth) + "metron" (measure) refers to the larvae, which appear to be "measuring the earth" as they move.
Geometridae or Geometrid Moths has around 26,000 species worldwide.
Moths and butterflies both belong to a group of insects called Lepidoptera, meaning that they have wings covered with scales. Moths come in a huge variety of shapes, sizes and colors, and can be found all year round, even in winter. They are one of the most diverse animal groups on the planet.
