[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
I found this cicada on Greece island Crete. They make really loud sound and that's the reason why I photographed this insect. I usually don't photograph insect but this time I did. I hope you like it :)

5D @ 105mm, hand held, natural light.

A cicada is an insect of the order Hemiptera, suborder Auchenorrhyncha, in the superfamily Cicadoidea, with big eyes wide apart on the head and usually transparent, well-veined wings. There are approximately 2,500 species of cicada around the globe, and many remain unclassified. Cicadas live in temperate to tropical climates where they are one of the most widely recognized of all insects, mainly due to their large size and remarkable (and often inescapable) acoustic talents. Cicadas are sometimes called "locusts", although they are unrelated to true locusts, which are a kind of grasshopper. Cicadas are related to leafhoppers and spittlebugs.

Cicadas do not bite or sting, are benign to humans, and are not considered a pest. Many people around the world regularly complement their standard diet with cicadas: the female is prized for eating as it is meatier. Cicadas have been eaten (or are still eaten) in Ancient Greece, China, Malaysia, Burma, Australia, Latin America and the Congo. Cicadas are employed in the traditional medicines of China and Japan for hearing-related matters.

The word cicada is a direct derivation of the Latin cicada, meaning "tree cricket"; in Greek they are referred to as tzitzikia or tettix...

Hej Ralf,
Great capture of this Cikada very nicely camouflaged against the bark of the tree. Excellent details and fine colours. I like the sharpness in the transparent wings. Well observed!

A perfect representation of a feeding cicada sharply rendered Ralf. You've captured the natural colors nicely, however I would crop this shot a little from above.
Best regards,
Mehmet

Hej Ralf,
Great capture of a cicada that is well worth posting. Though quite camouflaged on the tree trunk, it is sharp and taken from a fine POV.
Hope you take more insect shots!

Bonsoir Ralf,
C'est superbe ! les couleurs ton sur ton entre l'insecte et l'arbre me plaisent beaucoup, ainsi que la netteté et la transparence des ailes.
Merci du partage.
Antoine.
