Violet Dropwing (Trithemis annulata) male.
kingdom: Animalia
phylum: Arthropoda
subphylum: Hexapoda
class: Insecta
order: Odonata
suborder: Anisoptera
family: Libellulidae
A species of dragonfly quite common all around the Mediterranean, but I've only encountered it this once. The downwards posture of the wings while at rest gives it its common name "Dropwing". You don't need me to explain the "Violet" part, do you? :-)
I have also another, very similar capture of the same dragonfly, on Flickr. |

Hi Stavros,
Personally, I love this species, T. annulata.
Very nice colours in his whole body.
Outstanding DOF and POV!!
Well done, Stavros.
Regards and TFS,
Kevin

Hello Stavros,
I don't know why you've cropped the wings on this one? The one on FlickR is really great!
Anyway, it is a beautiful dragonfly which I haven't seen before - terrific colours and good focus.

Hello Stavros,
Very interesting dragonfly with nice note. Perfect exposure but a bit soft focus. I tried to fix it in the workshop.
I hope it helps :-)
Best greetings,
Michal
