Coenonympha pamphilus (thanks Merlin)

This common little butterfly occurs almost everywhere in Europe except for the extreme north and its range extends into North Africa.
Habitats are meadows, heaths, roadsides and mountain slopes up to 1800 meters. The caterpillar is green with dark stripes along the back and sides.
The pale green pupa is suspended upside down from a grass stem and produces a butterfly in about three weeks.
Butterflies are on the wing from May until October, according to locality, and have a slow fluttering flight above the foliage.

Hello Christos, what beautiful macro with splendid colors and impressive details. Colours that blend well. Congratulations Didier.

Hi Christos, it doesn't matter if we don't know the ID, the basic - the photo - is so beautiful. Excellent sharpness and the colours are so marvelous. I like it very much, thanks for sharing it with us

Christos:
You really had me scratching my head with this one! It can't be Maniola jurtina because the forewings of that species are concave, not convex - it's Coenonympha pamphilus, the Small Heath. However, the colours are a bit off, making it look more intensely coloured than it really is (and more like Meadow Brown) - maybe a bit too much with the "levels" adjustment? Be careful - a lot of butterfly ID requires accurate colour reproduction. Nice, sharp shot of this little butterfly, though.
Regards, Nigel.

I agree with Merlin. Its a Coenonympha pamphilus (Linnaeus, 1758), not only by color of the wings, but because the too snall white dots on the underside wings. The Maniola jurtina doesn't have them.
Nice shot!

Hi Christos,
It's a beautiful butterfly you have caught. Well seen from the dark BG. Nice colours and good details.
I like the composition and POV.
