Αμφίβιο ερπετό. Εξωτερικά μοιάζει με τις σαύρες και από άποψη εσωτερικής κατασκευής με τους βατράχους. Στα πρώτα στάδια της ανάπτυξής της αναπνέει με βράγχια και αργότερα με πνεύμονες. Τρέφονται με σαλιγκάρια, διάφορα μαλάκια, σκουλήκια, κάμπιες και έντομα.
Οι σαλαμάνδρες παρουσιάζουν το φαινόμενο της αναγέννησης. Εάν κοπεί ένα μέλος του σώματός τους, σε λίγες μέρες αποκτούν και πάλι το μέλος αυτό .
Σπάνια απομακρύνεται από τη φωλιά της και βγαίνει από το κρησφύγετό της μονάχα τη νύχτα και τις υγρές και βροχερές μέρες. Τη συναντάμε και στην Ελλάδα.

Great shot of this salamander, Aimilios. : )
The details are very sharp. I can feel the texture on the skin.
The colors are gorgeous. The black and yellow make a beautiful contrast.

Hello Aimilios!
I like this picture because of the following characters:
1. interesting amphibian species, rather rare prsented on TN
2. good composition, even if BG is not very natural for this salamandra
3.good DOF and details (except some parts of head - but I suppose hat that is because of some reflections)
4.Very good idea to use frame in colours of salamandra! :)
