Hello my Friends!
Today I decided to show you something different, and do not seen too often because it is... hidden underground :>

This is a part of Perama Cave named Waterlily Pond. The cave is localized in Perama village, W Greece.

Really I know that this picture could be better, but because pictures from caves are not presented in TN gallery too often, I hope you will be forgiving this time :>

Perama Cave is a hidden beauty and a wonderful underground natural treasure of Greece. It covers an area of 14,800 sq. m. There are 14 types of stalagmite and stalactite inside, all in different shapes and sizes!!!

The cave was discovered in 40s. and dedicated to Pluto and Persephone in antiquity.
It has three different levels and is actually part of the bed of an underground river, that was formed over 1.5 million years ago.

The most interesting (I mean unique, because all parts of cave are really great to see) is the Cross stalagmite, a fantastic and unique work of nature created when one of the stalactites which had dripped for thousands of years onto the double-pointed stalagmite below, broke off and wedged between the points, forming a cross.

In the cave some inverterbates can be found, including cave cricket described from this place in 1964 - Dolichopoda (Dolichopoda) graeca (Orthoptera).

Of course it is only a small part of this wonderful underground Greek treasure, but I hope that you will like it :> And of course if you like to see much more, I strongly recommend you to visit this place! It is really a great experience!!! :>

Czesc Radek!

Hi Radomir,

Excellent image considering the lighting conditions underground.

Robin

Hello Radomir
underground sites are one of my favourite areas. As you know, since I works on bats, I often visit such a place. you present this beautiful cave with a great shot. great POV and composition. superb colors and lighting. and of course, great informative notes.
Now, I will post a cricket from cave by e-mail.
best wishes my friend
Ahmet

Hi Radomir
The Perama Cave looks like a great place to explore. The formations are unique and the soft lighting shows off the detail and shapes of the cave so well. Were there any creatures living in the water?

Hi Radomir,
Outstanding shot of these stalactite and stalagmites and the formation looks so amazing. The lighting is superb and gives it that rich colour. Awesome creation of nature and you have portrayed it so well here. Thanks for sharing this image of this beautiful place.

Hi Rado

A great shot of a little shown part of nature. Great view showing pillars (joined stactmites and stactites). One can also see that the wter level was once much higher - on both pillars is a mark part way up at the same levell - this would have been the level of the water at some point in the past.

Czesc Radek.
Wspaniale stalagnaty, piekne swiatlo i piekna jaskinia. Jaskinie sa mi bardzo bliskie, przez pare lat dosyc intensywnie brałem udział w ich zdobywaniu, odkrywaniu i eksploracji. Jedna z moich pasji.
Pozdrawiam Robert.

Hi Radek

Ahh...i see you beat me to it :) I've been meaning to do some cave shooting this summer myself (since we have some very beautiful ones here nereby), but i simply couldn't find the time for it...

Anyway, this is a very beautiful and original shot. We really get to see too few of such photos here on TN.
Very good perspective here and excellent presentation of the stalagmites and stalactites.
I really like the vertical compo, too and the note full of useful information.

Bravo and TFS
Horia

Hi Radomir

I have never tried photographing a cave but I'm sure it not the easiest of subjects so I am suitably impressed. I love visiting caves so this is a treat for me. I think the vertical framing works really well here.

Hi Radomir,
wow, what an awesome looking place. Looks very similar to the caves we have here in Somerset. You did very well with the lighting and chose an excellent POv too - well done!
Paul

It is a mind boggling image, Radomir.
What human hand can outdo the hand of nature, even as a sculptor?
In terms of Gestalt, these formations within your frame also remind me of the ancient Hindu shrines built in a particular style.
As a photographer, you have done your job very well. With the constraints of existing artificial light, you have re-created the magic of the place very successfully.
Your note widens my perspective on this kind of phenomenon.
Thanks and regards.

Hi Radomir,
All credits for the originality and the skills to pull this off perfectly. Taking photos with no natural light is always a tough one and your control is very good. The warm orange color fits the photo pefectly. The clear water gave a great effect on the reflection.
TFS,
niek

Hello Radomir!
I agree with the positive critics on this beauty, so I will use my comment this time to send you my best regards.
I miss my TN friends and hope to have internet soon at my new house so I keep in contact, but it is becoming a difficult bussiness.
In the meantime receive my best wishes, Felipe.
