Podiceps cristatus. Breed on fresh water, sometimes in colonies. In winter also in estuaries and coastal waters.
Here, in lake Kerkini's northern shore. (The lake was formed in 1932, when a dam was built on Strymon river. It is the wildlife-richest habitat in Greece and one of the ten water-reserves protected by Ramsar Treaty.)

Maybe the most beautiful member of the grebe family... The picture lacks some quality, maybe due to excesive postprocesing trying to increase sharpness¿?... But I know how difficult is to get pictures of these elusive birds! Marta
