Nycticorax nycticorax. In Greek is called "nychtocorakas" (i.e., night raven), because of its hoarse croak. Skulking and mainly nocturnal, most often seen flying at dusk, or hunched on secluded bough in densely vegetated swamp or marsh, fresh or salt, or even away from water.
Here, in Kerkini lake's northern shore. (The lake was formed in 1932, when a dam was built on Strymon river. It is the wildlife-richest habitat in Greece and one of the ten water-reserves protected by Ramsar Treaty.

That's a nice compo with lovely natural haboztat around, sharpness is not perfect probably due to the lens.
Lake Kerkini must be great
