In lake Kerkini's northern shore. The lake was formed in 1932, when a dam was built on Strymon river. It is the wildlife-richest habitat in Greece and one of the ten water-reserves protected by Ramsar Treaty.
1) White pelican (pelecanus onocrotalus). A colonial bird, living in fresh and brackish lakes, marshes and shallow coastal waters.
2) Great crested grebe (Podiceps cristatus). Breed on fresh water, sometimes in colonies. In winter also in estuaries and coastal waters.
