Ardea cinerea, the biggest heron's species in Europe (it reaches 91 cm. in length). It lives in groups by the water on trees or in swamps and is fed with fish, mice, worms, frogs and snails. Here, in lake Kerkini's western shore. (The lake was formed in 1932, when a dam was built on Strymon river. It is the wildlife-richest habitat in Greece and one of the ten water-reserves protected by Ramsar Treaty.)
