[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Eurasian Spoonbill or Common Spoonbill/Platalea leucorodia,
in Greek houliaromita (houliari in the ancient Greek it means spoon, miti it means nose)
is a wading bird of the ibis and spoonbill family Threskiornithidae,

it is a infrequent bird that comes more in southern Europe,
in Greece the past few year it has been decreased considerably. The few individuals that come
we can find in most big water biotopes (lake Kerkini)that have remained in the country,
the cause, the shrinkage and destruction of water biotopes from the humans.

I can classify it in my five more lovingly birds,
I consider that it is very beautiful, with particular charm movement and disposal.

This species is almost unmistakable in most of its range.
The breeding bird is all white except for its dark legs, black bill with a yellow tip
and a yellow breast patch like a pelican. It has a crest in the breeding season.
Non-breeders lack the crest and breast patch, and immature birds have a pale bill
and black tips to the primary flight feathers.
Unlike herons, spoonbills fly with their necks outstretched.

The Eurasian Spoonbill occurs in marshy wetlands with some open shallow water,
nesting in colonies in trees or reedbeds.
Here it grazes next to the lake Kerkini in the fields that are found in her south-western side,
and usually this season they are full ranunculida and insects.

thank you for your visit in my collection

have a nice day and good photographs!
