The Hoopoe/Upupa epops. In Greek tsalapetinos
It is the only species in the family Upupidae

From wikipedia:
The Hoopoe is a medium sized bird, 25–32 cm long, with a 44–48 cm wingspan weighing 46-89 g. The species is highly distinctive, with a long, thin tapering bill that is black with a fawn base. The strengthened musculature of the head allows the bill to be opened when probing inside the soil. The hoopoe has broad and rounded wings capable of strong flight, these are larger in the northern migratory subspecies. The Hoopoe has a characteristic undulating flight, which is like that of a giant butterfly, caused by the wings half closing at the end of each beat or short sequence of beats. The song is a trisyllabic "oop-oop-oop", which gives rise to its English and scientific names.

Traditional history that I found from the Greek Ornithological Company:
In Egypt the considering holy bird because they believe that it will be affectionate with his parents.
In other deliveries they presented him domestic, very proud naming him "wild cock". It boasts in hens and duck for his beautiful nose, kept the nose raised being careful it does not soil him,It considered him also important arm. In a walk however, with the hens and the ducks, attacked them a fox, however he was first that immediately flew far in order to it is saved, fox ate the hens all and the ducks, the hoopoe from his shame did not return again in the coop and became wild bird.

It was photographed in the Delta of river Strimonas in the lake Kerkini.

thank you for your visit in my collection

have a nice day and good photographs!

Hello Nasos,
A fine capture of a Hoopoe taken from a good POV to show its features with excellent sharpness. A fine image despite the concrete strengthening netting perch.
Thanks and all the best,
Ivan

Hi Nasos,

I always have to stop when I see a Hoopoe! For me, no bird beats this one! Love the pose on the fence showing off his profile with the long beak to one side and the crest to the other. A wonderful catchlight in the eye, fine details of his feathers, and beautiful colors.

Jane

hello Nasos

excellent photo of the Hoopoe with fine POV,
for the framing (you are a much better photographer
than me so i am not to give lessons) i would prefer
tp see more place where the bird is looking and less
place behind the bird, but maybe they where a specific
reason why you framed like this, fine focus on it
with excellent sharpness and details, and the catch-light
render the photo more beautiful, TFS
