Eurasian Spoonbill or Common Spoonbill/Platalea leucorodia,breeding bird
in Greek houliaromita (houliari in the ancient Greek it means spoon,miti it means nose)
is a wading bird of the ibis and spoonbill family Threskiornithidae,most birds migrate to the tropics in winter,with European breeders mainly going to Africa.
This species is almost unmistakable in most of its range. The breeding bird is all white except for its dark legs,
black bill with a yellow tip and a yellow breast patch like a pelican.It has a crest in the breeding season.
Non-breeders lack the crest and breast patch and immature birds have a pale bill and black tips to the primary flight feathers.
Unlike herons,spoonbills fly with their necks outstretched.The Eurasian Spoonbill occurs in marshy wetlands with some open shallow water,
nesting in colonies in trees or reedbeds.It does not usually share colonies with storks or herons.

this is photograph from the last travel in the lake Kerkini passed June,I dream the next travel,the particular type will have left,but will have a lot of other where overwintering in Greece.

the photographing became in the flooded forest,in the delta of river Strimonas in the lake Kerkini

Hello Nasos,
Very fine composition with subtle colors and a pleasing subject. Even if the white plumage of the Spoonbill is slightly overexposed, I like this shot a lot for its magnificent and subtle background showing shades, water and trees in a very artistic manner.

Hello Nasos,
An excellent capture of a European Spoonbill. The light management of its white plaumage against a dark BG is excellent and the POV shows the features with very good sharpness in nice side lighting. Pleasing composition too.
This species is very rare in Sweden.
