On one of our visits to yet another Greek archeological site, we came across a watery terrain which was intersected by walking bridges. Most of the archeological findings were half under water and actually, it wasn't much except ...

for the abundance of damselflies, darters and chasers which were flying above the water. They were everywhere. I decided to try and capture them instead of the drowned findings.

This Calopteryx Splendens Amasina was perched on one of the railings of a bridge, opening and closing it's wings constantly. My cam, especially when set on high-res pics, is not so fast in focusing, and I wanted to catch him with his wings at least partially open, so I could show the brilliance of his colors. I ended up having to predict in advance when he would open his wings and start shooting right before he opened them.

In the meantime a queue of pple had formed behind me, all waiting until I got the perfect shot!

Calopteryx Splendens Amasina resembles the Calopteryx Splendens Splendens very much, except that Amasina is even more blue than his cousin, and while Splendens Splendens has a clear blue band on both wings, Amasina's are completely blue.

Amasina is common in Turkey and Greece, and rare in the northern parts of Europe, where Splendens Splendens is seen more often. The males are bright blue, and the females are a little duller and green.
