| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
An adult Natrix tesselata at defence position.
N.tessealata is a completely harmless snake fully dependent by fresh water as it finds its food only in or near water. It feeds on amphibians and fish and spends most of its time in the water.
If caught it excretes some fluids, from glands of its skin, that smell like dead animal. This is the main way of its defence. |
