The Squacco Heron/Ardeola ralloides
a solitary friend
is a small heron, 40-49 cm long with 82-95 cm wingspan.
This is a stocky species with a short neck, short thick bill and buff-brown back.
At the duration of day it remains in the vegetation and comes out early the morning,
or late the afternoon the hours near the east or in the west in order to it chases.
It is nourished with ranunculida(his beloved food), insects and small fishes, all of small size.
In the flooded meadows that it creates the lake in her perimeter is a beautiful opposition in the green colour that dominates.
Concrete should enter in period of reproduction (it lasts in Greece from the month of May up to July),
the colours change, it acquires a intense blond and red colour while the white parts do not change colour,
the beak becomes light blue, with the end remains black and the legs begin to take pink nuance.
His head is embelished with long feathers red and black colour that reach up to his shoulders.
(The young male resemble with the adults at the not reproductive period).

A fine Capture of a Squacco heron in breeding colours, the black tip of the bill being very obvious here.
Taken from a great POV with fine lighting, colours, sharpness and in a great pose against the contrasting reedy BG.
