[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This is one of the prettiest orchids I found together with the closely related regiss-ferdinandii which is weirder still in shape. The flowers were very dirty with lime dust, since they are usually found on lime soil. This one i cleared with the litle brush i used! to use for cleaning my sensor. A day later it rained and they were all washed clean1 :(

Hi Jereon

This is indeed a strange, but pretty orchid. You have a very nice POV on it, but perhaps a little more depth would have been perfect .. but I see you already used f13. Very nice natural colors! Sorry to hear that your troubles of cleaning the flower where of short value :).

Very interesting Orchid, excellent photo!

Hi Jeroen,
No shadow (I guess why...), beautiful tones, perfect sharpness and cleaning (!): good job! And an excellent DOF for this small subject. Yes, this species is really attractive.
For the name, they are a discussion among specialists... It seems that on Lesvos, it is Ophrys vernixia ssp. orientalis H.F. Paulus, according to the book of Karatzas about the orchids of Lesvos... Other name: Ophrys speculumssp. orientalis. They have another pollinisator than the "classical" O.speculumaccording this source. See other photos here.
Cheers,
Catherine

Hi Jeroen. This is an unusual looking flower head. You have taken this Orchid withsharp focusing and fine detail. Your use of the light has given natural colours. We can see inside of the flower with your head on POV. wel ldone TFs.
